Exploring Full-Stack and Cross-Platform Development in a High-Growth Tech Studio
From January 2014 to April 2017, I worked as a Full Stack Developer at Nebular Technologies, a fast-growing software studio specializing in custom-built web and mobile solutions. As one of the company’s early engineers, I had the opportunity to explore the full breadth of development across backend, frontend, and mobile applications in a highly collaborative and mentorship-driven environment.
💻 Web, Mobile & Hybrid Experience
Nebular provided a rich, hands-on environment for learning and executing projects in real-world scenarios. I contributed to web and Android apps for clients like Cosmovisión, while also working on internal products like Zeepod and Odin—touching every layer from database models to frontend views.
🚀 Key Results Included
- 🧩 Built and maintained hybrid apps using Cordova and AngularJS, enabling cross-platform deployment for mobile clients.
- 📱 Developed native Android apps in Java, learning Android SDK principles and contributing to production releases with stable performance and clean UI/UX.
- 💎 Contributed to web platforms using Ruby on Rails, gaining a deep understanding of MVC patterns, ActiveRecord, and Rails conventions.
- 🧪 First exposure to unit testing and CI workflows, setting the foundation for a test-driven mindset.
- 🌐 Delivered client-facing websites using PHP, WordPress, and WooCommerce, deploying to environments like Heroku and managing database configurations in PostgreSQL and MySQL.
🧠 Business & Platform Context
Nebular focused on helping businesses improve their digital operations through tailor-made web and mobile products. Their value proposition was centered on:
- Custom Solutions: Each product was designed to address a specific business need—ranging from internal tools to customer-facing apps.
- UI/UX Design: There was a strong emphasis on intuitive interfaces and elegant user journeys, often co-developed with in-house design teams.
- Agile Collaboration: We worked in short cycles, often directly with stakeholders, which enabled fast feedback loops and iterative delivery.
Working at Nebular gave me my first in-depth exposure to the realities of software engineering—from writing production code and debugging mobile apps to shipping full-stack features and collaborating with designers. It was a formative experience that grounded me in fundamentals while expanding my technical horizons.
